A few weeks ago, I was listening to Apple Music on shuffle and two Rema songs from different mixtapes hit and I just kept on thinking of how smart Rema’s music marketing is. Of course his marketing is not as organic as Blaqbonez’ but it is a sign of Don Jazzy’s genius and full understanding of the Nigerian music industry.

He knows Rema is young and the target audience are now people who have smartphones and want to listen to songs on the go. The new generation does not have the patience to wait for albums that can take as much as 3–4 years to be released and might be disappointing. They want something quick and fresh hence, Rema who is their age range drops mixtapes from time to time to keep the target audience in the loop and always fresh.

Off the top of my head, I know about 2 mixtapes and no album yet. The wait is being reduced efficiently and effectively by keeping the audience fresh.

I have been in the marketing space for a few years now and if this isn’t genius then I don’t know what is.
